HOW TO LIGHT A LIVING ROOM.

The correct illumination of the living room is fundamental to give warmth and beauty to the environment. For this, it is not enough to just buy the best lamps. It is necessary to achieve harmony in the lighting design and use well the different ways of lighting. The work begins in the search for the best use of the entrance of natural light. The next step is to complete, without exaggeration, the general lighting of the room (here).

There are several ways to light up a room, giving it personality, sophistication and warmth. The use of chandeliers, more than any other accessory, can give refinement to the space (1). The washers and floor lamps create soft or focused environments that transform with the design of light (2). Pendant lights goes well in almost all situations (3). It is still possible to customize the lighting with the use of LED lamps, strip-lighting or with recycled or industrial luminaires (4) (here).

People miss too much in excess of clarity and forget the need for light and shadow effect, affecting the perception of space (here). Here are four popular lighting strategies and how they work in a living room: Ambient or General, Task or Work, Accent and Decorative (here).

Ambient or General lighting provides an area with overall illumination. Stylish chandeliers, ceiling lights, wall-mounted fixtures or portable lamps can provide the ambiance that casts a warm glow in your living room. It controls glare and provides the general illumination that makes the living room feel comfortable and inviting. Since this type of lighting affects the overall quality of light in the room and tends to be used the most it is desirable that you use energy-efficient solutions, with dimmers or three-way controls (here).

Task or Work lighting helps you perform specific tasks, such as reading or embroidering (here). This brighter light can be a floor lamp with a swinging arm next to a comfortable chair , or a directed light source over a desk. These are not the lights you use all the time ----- they’re only to be used when you’re doing a task. A more localized type of lighting positioning is especially important. Portable table lamps allow for flexibility when furniture is moved (here). Task lighting should be free of distracting glare and shadow be bright enough to prevent eye strain.

Accent lighting adds drama to a living room by creating visual interest (here). When you want to highlight certain features in your living room, like a fireplace, texture of a brick or stone wall or a favorite painting, accent light is the way to go. To be effective, accent lighting requires as least five times as much light on the focal point as the general lighting surrounding it. Recessed adjustable lights directed to points of interest or under-cabinet lighting in a display case that highlights selected objects are examples of accent lighting (here).

Decorative Lighting is a way to enhance the beauty of your house. Indoor decorative lighting gives a room personality and style. It should give a person that visual impact that defines the owner’s personality in just one glance. Interior decorative lighting fixtures include ceiling fixtures like chandeliers or table fixtures like lamps. It can also include wall fixtures like paintings, sconces, medals, trophies and so on....There are some factors that need to be considered for decorative lighting like cost saving, power effectiveness, affordability, space and so on (here).

For a good job you must pay attentiion to:
# Create flexibility through portable lighting.
# Provide good ambient/indirect lighting.
# Make sure glare is controlled for comfortable reading.
# Use switched receptacles to integrate fluorescent torchieres.
# Accent lighting should be used in some locations to create various scenes and an intimate atmosphere.
# Multiple fixture types in one room allow for flexibility. Wall sconces can provide effective ambient light if directed up. Portable lamps are always a good option for living rooms. Also, consider matching wall sconces and pendants (here).

Analyze and ponder.
Consider the possibilities.
Dare without fear of making mistakes.
Brighten your room and your life.

Analise e pondere.
Considere as possibilidades.
Ouse sem medo de errar.
Ilumine sua sala e sua vida.
